Advise on Corbeau Seats

I am thinking of putting a pair of Corbeau seats in my 87. Can anyone who has them in their car now or previously advise which are the best and most comfortable model seat for a street driven car that I take some long trips in? Also are they good seats do they fit well and are they easy to install?

Relative junk....

They look okay, but they don't hold up to any kind of stress.
There's a reason they cost 1/3 of any "real" seat.
When i pulled them out of my car, both seats had cracked fiberglass at the mounting points.

I wouldn't buy them again.

Find someone that has them, check 'em out, form your own opinion, but that's my impression.

Corbeau seats........

I have a set in my SC. The ones that I bought are built with a welded steel frame. I also used the Corbeau mounting brackets which mounted the seats without any grief. I am also using the Corbeau shoulder harness seat belts. So far everything is holding up/woring well. The seats I installed are also very light at about 16 lbs per seat! Here is a picture:

I agree with top comments - but have seen them in person and they "look pretty ok"

question is what happens if you need them to protect you...do they splinter into pieces and cause more damage then protect, have they been fully tested...how many race cars have you seen them in.....

they are most likely inexpensive because the testing was minimal, the materials are not the same as the expensive ones. they may work AOK - but for me a name like Racaro has the history and the background to do it right -----

I have Sparco's and they are even suspect to the same thinking as I just stated but they seem to at least be found on real race tracks where as i have not seen the Corbeau's in any paddock but local driving events

just saying

I had Corbeau Forza's in another car for a couple of years - the plastic parts break, the lumbar pad failed (shortly after installation), the black cloth is an incredible dust magnet.

Upside - the Forzas are a good fit for widebodies (not the car, the driver).

I had Corbeau seats in my car and they were alright. I switched to Recaro, the difference is night and day. Recaro makes amazing seats.

I have the CR1 in my car. I bought them because I wanted something affordable, recline-able, and to have a 5 pt harness for DE's. They fill my needs perfectly.

However, my car is a weekend driver, AX, and DE use. I wouldn't necessarily recommend them for daily driving or long cruises. I can feel the lumbar springs on the lower part of my back.

My wife loves them and says its the best thing I've done to the car (my original seats only have 45,000 mi). They do sit about an inch+ higher compared to my originals in the lowest position(automatic) and I think that's why she likes them.

I would recommend finding a good used set (that's what I did). Keep in mind these are not $2000 seats ea and you will be satisfied.

I think if I paid new pricing I would be a little dissapointed.

Hi Mike,
I bought a set of Corbeau FX1 seats for my 78 SC which I was intending to be primarily an AutoX and time trial car. I checked out a lot of fixed back seats (sat in them) and by far the most comfortable and best fitting for me (6'3, 185lbs, 34 waist, wide shoulders) was the FX1 seats. Next best fit was the Sparco Evo II but could still feel pinch pressure on the side of my shoulders, just not as comfortable and holes for harness would just barely allow proper orientation on my collar bone/shoulders.

I wasn't planning to do any wheel to wheel racing so I wasn't too concerned about FIA rating. If a DE or time trail required it, I was just planning to add a seat back brace.

I had previously read and heard Corbeau seats were not that good, but maybe that was with the older models. Not sure about other's experience, but when I looked at the new Corbeau's and compared them to other fiberglass seats, they looked to be of similar quality (albeit without the FIA sticker). I eventually did not install the seats and will be selling them because I have decided to take the car into more of a street focus and will install recliners. So my search for a sporty but comfortable reclining seat starts, but I will check out the Corbeau recliners first.

I suggest you sit in as many different seats as possible and decide based on intended use (for serious racing get a FIA seat) and comfort.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

I have also been looking into corbeau seats.

I dont want to hijack the thread, but does anyone have any input on corbeau's classic bucket? I think they look great but can't find much on how they feel and how they compare to the rest of their products.

Hopefully this will aid in your search.

Thanks.
