Give me a brake
Evening. Working away on 911 sc 1978 targa. Car does not want to roll forward or backward. In neutral with e brake off. Finally got to solid animals to help me push the forward. It was stuck good. Car did sit outside for 3 years and was never started or moved. I am addressing the engine stuff.
Now for the kicker. I try to roll the car backward a week later and of course it doesn't want to budge. I get in drivers seat and go to push in brake pedal and it won't budge. I mean this sucker won't move no matter how hard I press down on it. So, I am here asking for advice and help. What should I do? All input is much appreciated. Gary ![]() ![]() |

time to rebuild all 4 calipers and look at the master cylinder. Rust from moisture surly has rusted them firm. Start with the rears, you can also check out the parking brake. the kits and pads are inexpensive.

The booster works when the engine is running. I would start trouble shooting. Got fluid? Crack the bleeders and see what comes out.....check the brake hoses. Could be internally swollen and blocked. Frozen master cylinder, bad bushings in the pedal cluster.....
Rubber lines and fluid are cheap and are replaceable maintenance items....

Yikes. O.k. Sounds like the hoses and fluid make sense, and may as well rebuild the calipers. I am sure there are some really good write ups on that. How would I know if the master Cylinder is bad?
On the bottom of the dish there is a rust pattern like something leaked out of it. I will take a picture next time to send.. It sounds to me like everyone is saying one step at a time and potentially go through the entire system. What would be the correct order? Thanks again for all the great advice and input. Gary |

Have someone pump the brake pedal while you watch the action of the calipers and brake pads.
If the pads move and clamp down on the disc the MC is working. If not then fluid is not being compressed by the cylinder either because there is no fluid or the MC is defective or there is a blockage in the lines. Got to be one or combination of the above.....

O.K. Will do. The problem is the darn brake pedal won't move. I mean literally I can't pump it. it is like stuck all the way open. I cannot depress that sucker one fraction of an inch.

Pull the carpet up remove the pedal board and get your head down there with a good light. The pedal cluster may be frozen up with crud and rust.
A PB Blaster soak and a couple of taps with a rubber mallet may do a world of wonder.

Does the parking brake work? Was it left on all that time? You may have at least two problems...

Hi Gary had the same thing happen to me just after I purchased my 73t it had sat for
About 12 years in the po's garage and three days after I got it home it froze to the floor. I rebuilt the calibers replaced the master Cylinder as it was leaking through the bellows Into the pedal cluster area and rebuilt the cluster which I believe was the real problem For the frozen issue. Also changed fluid and changed rubber bake lines. Hope this helps Mike |

Absolutely. It all helps. And that makes sense. Because it sat outside for 3 years in sf and yes the parking break was on when I bought the car so I can only assume it was engaged the whole time.
