Broken Mechanical Speedometer Fitting

This is my first post here: thanks for the opportunity! I am sure that it will not be the last.

I pulled the engine and transmission from my 1975 911S in preparation for a rebuild courtesy of a pulled head stud. Removal was easy, but when I examined the nose of the transmission, I noticed that the fitting the speedometer cable screws onto is broken. ( I am discovering many broken and/or missing parts on this car as I proceed ) I have attached a photo of the broken piece below, circled in red. I have ordered and received a replacement oil seal from our host, but I cannot identify the broken piece on any drawing I can find. Can someone help me here?

Thanks!

I broke mine in the same spot off my 1974 915. The threads are actually part of the transmission front cover. Part # 915 301 903 03. The speedometer cable seems to weld itself to the threads on the magnesium case and it breaks very easy with little force. When you put the cable back on make sure you use anti-seize. I got my new front cover from a junk transmission. You should be able to find someone with one on the used parts forum or a salvage yard. New they are very expensive.

915 speedo

I found a mag nose piece with the speedo . The unit looks good, but is missing a couple bits that should be available from your piece. Also, ther thread for the speedo from the car has a tiny bit of damage but I think it will work fine. If your speedo parts are broken, I might be able to find the stuff here. I have a lot of 915 parts. I'll sell the cover, a new gasket, new O ring for reverse shaft and a new shift seal. I'll ultrasonically clean the unit before it ships. My price is $75 plus shipping.

PM your shipping address, I'll pm you the amount you can Paypal or mail a check. I have most parts for a 915 if you get in there and find that you need something else.

Hi Dan

I forgot to include the O ring that goes in the speedo gear cover. I'll put it in an envelope and send it. Your cover has shipped

This is what makes this forum so great!!!!! One member in dire needs of part and comes along another member offering his extra part/s without making a killing. My first reaction reaction when I saw the broken nose end was, it would be expensive to replace it.

Season's greeting to everyone.

Tony
