Kafer Dial Gauge (from our Host) problem

So I bought one of the Kafer metric dial gauges and Z block package with the extension pin from our Host, and for the life of me I haven't been able to figure out how to fit the threaded end of the extension into the end of the dial indicator. The end of the dial indicator has a knurled piece with a very small ball in the very end. It definitely does not appear to unscrew from the end of the dial indicator.
Pelican tech support unable to help and suggested I question the forum and email some guy named "Bob" that is their tech support only via email.

Anybody have this setup? Are they in fact compatible with each other as the catalog states? Thanks.

Have you actually tried to remove the tip from the dial indicator? See picture below.

I've tried using only my hands more than once to no avail. Pelican staff/tech support tried it as well on one they had in stock to no avail. I use delicate surveying equipment (i.e. measuring) for a living and I'm not planning on using a vice and a pipe wrench on this fine little tool! Well, not just yet.

Ok, found this catalog and it suggests the tip is indeed threaded.

So one last try with the hands. Lost a bit of skin on the thumb and index finger of my right hand while applying the grip of death to the knurled part and firmly holding the stem in my left hand. No dice. Found a small pair of pliers for the knurled part. Finally it broke loose and looks as if I'm good to go.

One for the archives I suppose.
