What did you do to your 911 today?
We have a running thread on 914world, "What did you do to your 914 today?" that just gets updated all the time. Is there one here? I haven't seen one in the six weeks since I bought my 75 911S. If there is, can you post a link? Otherwise, post away.
I swapped out my stock three spoke steering wheel for a MOMO Monte Carlo and adjusted my heat flapper box cables. Pics to follow... |
Sorry for crappy low light phone pics.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358043681.jpg Flapper boxes with levers fully up. I adjusted them so that they are 95% closed now. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358043743.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358043776.jpg |
Sanded and epoxy primed my rear fender flares I welded on a couple weeks ago. Also, opened all my "gifts" from Elephant as I prepare to rebuild my suspension and brakes.

Absolutely nothing. The car is done and its too damn cold. In the 40s is not the norm in the SF Bay Area. I have to drive The White Rat half way around the bay before the heat exhangers produce any heat in the cabin.
At 62, I've become a whoose when it comes to the cold. The Cayman, on the other hand, starts to get cozy PDQ. |
How timely. I got my box of goodies from Pelican today. I didn't have a lot of time, but managed to do the following:
1) Put the locator pins on the front of the cab top. It's much more secure now. 2) Fixed the plastic pins that hold up the front cover to the headliner 3) Re glued the vinyl in the front cover to the headliner. |
Do to it? Drove the snot out of it. 70 degrees and the sun was out (sort of) in January...I'm drivin' not workin'. -J
|
Drove mine yesterday morning for an hour, last night for an hour and today for 90 minutes and met up with some PNW Pelicans for some BSing. I hate to pull it into the garage.
|
it is 14 degrees here today. just got in from working on my 911 trying to sort out the fuel system. I don't have to worry about driving it any time soon. so much snow and too cold
|
I finished my hotrod core engine tear down. Removed head studs, bell housing studs and prepared the 7R case for the full smash of machine and upgrade work. Shuffle pins, case milling and line bore. Media tumble, head stud inserts, bell housing inserts, etc.
|
Started my A/C delete. Got the compressor, front and rear condenser, dryer and all the hoses out. Only have to take the blower for the front condenser ( in the trunk) and the stuff in the smuggler's box out. Then of course I need to make a cover for the hole in the trunk where the blower for the front condenser was. Should get it all done next Saturday. Also installed new air filter.

All corners went up in the air to work on this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/714764-stuck-reverse-twist.html
I got to use a pair of new toys, jack pads from our host: Pelican Parts - Product Information: 10-6641-030-M230 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358047018.jpg Definitely get a pair of these (and a pair of floor jacks) if jacking the rear up with the engine case freaks you out. It probably should... They are a safer way to use the factory intended roadside jack receptacles without using the deathtrap factory roadside jack. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358047068.jpg And they avoid crushing visible and invisible infrastructure... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358047210.jpg So far I'm about 50:50 for tackling issues myself but this one may end up at the shop... |
Hey Gint! Good thread. :)
Well with 24F degrees in the garage, I bucked up and tackled pressing the bearing races and 66mm studs into my left hub. You can see all the pics in my thread. Here's the link to today's updates, HERE. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358048201.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358048219.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358048278.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358048303.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358048327.jpg |

I took it for a 70 mile ride around a local Island:) |
Nada. It's sleeping under a car cover for a couple more days.
|
In the 20s (F, not C) outside, but low 50s in the garage, so work can be done.
Mounted the new LED strip as a 3rd brake light today. Used 3M tape to stick it to a thin sheet metal bracket I built that slips between the seal and the glass. Simple, clean and unobtrusive. I like this much better than the big light housing I had. Total cost - less than $8. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358023857.jpg |
Broke an exhaust stud :(

After 2 months of sitting, I opened the garage and started her up for a little while. Smoked and was running rich, but more importantly reminded me that there is still 8-10 weeks before the winter let's her out of the garage.
|
Drove about 200 miles or so to Phoenix and back. So about 500 miles this week on a '83 SC with 227k miles unopened motor.
