The SSIs made by JP are made with the exact same tooling and Machinery as used before in the U.S

I am sure, if you ask i Viborg, it is possible for you to see and visit the facillities and workshop.

Have a nice stay in Denmark :)

I would love to here more details about the new SSI company bc all the rumors say that the product has changed to thinner SS and a different number ?, which supposedly will rust. I would like to see this Urban Legend confirmed or denied. I need some for my 66 911. Thanks

John will probably know - he still lives nearby here in Norcal. - I will try to find out , and also see if I can make the drive to Viborg to check out what they are willing to show. I do not know who the distributors are in DK - They don't seem to have things like Oreilly, Grand Auto, Napa over there. I need one side for a 68 and both for a 3.6 in a 72.

John likely has a fabrication shop in the area. I will find out without being a stalker.

Not sure which grade John was using - I think the corrosion resistance is just with chromium content.. Although stainless steel definitely does rust in a salt environment - I believe marine heat exchangers have nickel content. There are other variations for working properties, for fine grain possibilities (think targa bar, delorean), and for sealing properties (foodservice). There must be someone who has the before and after side by side - patrickmotorsports is a likely candidate.

If you check the facts from jpgroups website: they state that they are using grade 304 grade steel for ssi's.

Hey Douglas

That is my impression too! I do see him now and then for Porsche-meetings, though.

My dad and I am in the first two minutes of the first video! I kind of forgot about that. We became 1st and 2nd at that DE 5 years ago in my car :)

That second one is another Danish Porsche-friend's car...

I very much agree! She is sweet looking :)

Progress, it's coming along nicely and keeping me motivated. The under hood filler is your fabrication or aftermarket, nice touch and cleans up the fender lines.

Too cool.......seriously

The assemply is going the right way. Lots of details to attend to and lots of small parts you suddently realise you are missing!

Most of the rubber seals installed:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388309819.jpg

Now the fenders and hood are in place and lined up just fine:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388309796.jpg

As the original gas shocks for the hood don't work well with GRP, I bought this cool part for holding the hood from our host. A little magnet glued to the hood makes it easy to find the place...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388309839.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388309846.jpg

I got the speaker hole in the dash deleted with a plate and the dash covered in nice leather :)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388309893.jpg

Oil door in place - looks really good! And a set of used chrome door handles (as I could not get the black paint off of mine)

Love the progress to date and the regular updates but please tell me you are going to refinish the fuel tank. The rest of the area is beautiful but the tank needs respraying and detracts from the rest of it.

Cheers Al

Danish Dynamite 12-31-2013 03:34 AM

Thanks, Al

I might do the tank at some point - I can see your point! Do you know what the right color of grey would be?

Time for a little update. After more than 2 years at the body shop the car is now done being worked at there:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391862504.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391862512.jpg

The last thing put on the car before it left the body shop was a pair of historically correct licence plates. (My fist name is Christian - my last name starts with an S :) )

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391862595.jpg

Danish Dynamite 02-08-2014 04:34 AM

After leaving the body shop, my car had a short stop at a graphics shop to have scripts put on. The car is now at a Porsche shop to have a new headliner and the windows installed. They sent me a few pictures from the work in progres...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391862778.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391862783.jpg

The car should be ready for pickup in next week and then it is on to mounting brakes, oil lines and suspension, seats, roll cage and so on...

Time to get the 930 floating brake discs assembled!

The brakes looked like this when I bought them:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391876319.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391876514.jpg

I disassembled them and had them straightend up:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391876551.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391876562.jpg

The hats and rings were cleaned up, wire brushed and send to get black-chromed.

Hats freshly pushed into the discs and all new assembly gear:

Great work... Body looks beautiful!

Danish Dynamite 02-20-2014 11:15 AM

My car is now at "Porsche Centrum Køge" - a well known Porsche shop in Denmark. They installed the headliner and the windows and while doing other work on the car, they let me work on the car while in the shop:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392923212.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392923253.jpg

The great guys there had a laugh when I was laying flat inside the car installing the pedal box and took a picture:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392923389.jpg

Powder coated roll cage installed:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392923498.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392923506.jpg

The owner, Kim, talked me into installing a new sound deafning in the eninge compartment. That was a "wonderful" job, and I had to take of the air cleaners, but the final result was nice...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392923636.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392923644.jpg

The part I took out was from 1972 and increadably heayy! The new part weighs nothing...

Danish Dynamite 02-20-2014 11:22 AM

I also restored my one year special oil tank. That took a lot of hard work!

nice brakes.
one good trip through the hills and its all spoiled ;-)

Lots of updates coming up. Lots of work done. Just haven't had the time to post...

But here is a video of the first start of the engine in 2½ years :D

The new exhaust might be too loud, but I have a plan for that...

Nice work!!

It must be an amazing feeling after two years and all the hard work you have put in.

Not too loud at all, love the note, keep it as it is.

Cheers Al

Danish Dynamite 03-30-2014 12:20 PM

Thanks, guys!

It might be hard to hear on the video, but it is REALLY loud...

Danish Dynamite 03-30-2014 01:15 PM

A little more from today. I had to block off the chocker for the MFI as I am running headers... Fun work.

After:

Make sure that screw is not too tight. The thermostat rod on mine ended up breaking and necessitating a total rebuild of the pump when the rod got into the cam and lifter area and seized up #3 and #6.

Danish Dynamite 03-30-2014 08:43 PM

Thanks, for the advise! I will back it off a bit :)

Well, there is a correct length for the warmed-up position. You just don't want to go past that. I am not sure what the tolerance is.

jm993rs 03-31-2014 02:28 PM

Please sr Danish !! Any pic of the oiltank connections and mounted ??

I love tjis oiltank and I Would mount this !!

Thank you

Danish Dynamite 04-05-2014 01:35 AM

Hey Max. Thanks again for the advise. It actually showed out, that I had not tighten it enough! I took of the side cover to see what was happening - and manually tested the play with a thin allen wrench. Here are some "open heart" pictures to show the open (chocker) position and the closed (non-chocker position)

Open:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1396686845.jpg

Closed - the rod easy pressed in by hand with the allen wrench
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1396686083.jpg

I then put in a longer allen screw and carefully measured and observed when it reached the closed position.

Before tightning:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1396686680.jpg

Tightent to the closed position:
