Notch in Alternator fan, whats its use?

I was putting in a new belt and noticed a notch on the fan belt (see pic below) on my 82 911sc, didnt see the purpose it served because there is nothing in sits on on slids over onto when on the alternator, it just freely spins. Is my car missing something? My fan freely spins on the alternator rod, just maybe thought that notch is suppose to slid onto something to help it catch onto the alternator rod. Thanks

Wrong fan or wrong alternator? The '82 should have a keyed fan hub and a keyed alternator shaft

lately, some rebuilt bosch alternators don't have a keyway cut in the shaft. this pisses me off. i called bosch tech and the guy said that bosch determined that they weren't needed. so far i've only seen two and i sent them back and got ones with a keyway. so stupid. new valeos only for me now.

Thats why I don't use Bosch remans,JUNK!! New Valeos for me too. Its not the same old Robert Bosch Co. it used to be. And yes, it should be keyed.
