Introduction

Greetings, Pelicans.

I figure it’s time to introduce myself. I recently acquired the car you see here, a 1988 dark blue coupe, as the culmination of a life-long dream. That is no hyperbole…..in 1982 I had a poster of a 911 on my wall….in 2004 I decided to quit my IT job and go to law school just so that I could get a 911. ..and now in 2013 it finally comes true!

I have been scavenging these boards for a while now and have already benefitted so much. I look forward to the day when I am actually able to contribute.

As for the car, it is bone stock, except for the radio, a K&N air filter and the removal of the tail it came with from the factory.

I had a PPI done on the car and it needs the following, none of which I considered to be a deal breaker (especially considering the amazing deal my co-worker gave me on the car):

1. The following need to be replaced:
a. Steering wheel bushing
b. Brake light switches
c. Right license plate light
d. Wiper blades
2. Clutch is stiff because it is going, but not yet gone
3. Left front brake caliper is sticking
4. Front condenser appears to be leaking
5. Right rear outer axel shaft boot is broken, needs to be replaced and CV joint washed
6. Oil leaks: cam shaft housing, left chain cover, front right side of motor from oil thermostat or oil cooler seal
7. Loose vacuum line (fixed)
8. Front air tube from blower to heat exchangers is not installed correctly
9. Engine insulation pad is deteriorating
10. Leak down test: 6%, 13%, 8%, 10%, 4%, 7%
11. Suspension bushings need to be replaced
12. Lower horn not working

I am looking forward to doing as much of it as I can myself. I have the Bentley Manual and have already read a bunch of the tech articles hear on Pelican. (RWebb - I had him check the fuel and brake lines and they all looked good.)

So far all I have done is Vaseline the Fuchs, bumperettes and smile (made a huge difference) and drive around town with a huge smile on my face.

If any of you are in the triad area, I’d love to get together some time. I’ll be at the Tobacco Road meeting in March. Hope to see you there.

Welcome aboard , all very manageable on what appears to be a really nice colour combo (is that a linen interior with navy piping?) very nice! And it looks like it has a good stance, great starting point. Of course drive it as often as you can!

Thanks, everyone.

It is Dark Blue, code 347, and yes it has the blue piping (good eyes, kiwiokie and canamfan!). I know some don't like the contrasting piping, but I'm a big fan of it.

I always thought I'd end up with a targa, but this one kind of fell in my lap and I couldn't say no. Plus, it has a G50 with LSD which I was also keen on.

I hope to tackle the brakes soon (rebuild all 4 calipers, replace brake switches and flush fluids), but I am having so much fun driving it that I don't want to stop (no pun intended)! I've never done any work like that before, but I've read a couple threads on here about the process and I figure if I get in over my head I'll just ship them out to PMB. What could go wrong, right????

Anyway, glad to be here and I hope to meet up with each and every one of you at some point.

DOOOD! Congrats on the wheels. LOVE the color, and wow, has it cleaned up nicely so far. Definitely do the work yourself...as much as possible. I would also recommend Wayne's 101 book, and Wayne's How to Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 Engines 1965-1989 book. Hayne's Porsche book too is pretty good to give another perspective, but as a back up.

Also, love your house...you have great style.

Before I give anyone the wrong idea.....that is NOT my house! That is the house that tobacco built (Reynolds estate).

I do live in Winston-Salem, after all.....

My house is the one about three miles away with woodpecker holes in it.
