Ultra lightweight turn signal and indicator experiment?

Anyone use something like these to replace their light boxes? I was thinking about;

1. Ditching the standard light boxes
2. Welding in a tab for the lenses to screw into
3. Epoxying these in the back of the lenses for the front turn and running lights, and rear running, brake and signal lights.

Seems if they are properly epoxied in place they should be weatherproof, and being LEDs are inherently vibration and heat-tolerant.

Might need some resistor arrangement for the turns to work properly.

yes someone did a led tail light array, looked real bright. someone did a race car application, just left the lenses in place and attached led cans behind them. that was several years ago

Yeah, thats what I'd like to see. You'd have to make some provision to hold the lenses in place...glue them or I was thinking of welding a tiny tab in place for the stock lens screw to attach.

May not be huge savings, but I'm trying to get to 850kgs so every little bit helps

We moulded a long bonnet front wing in glassfibre with the light box and horn grill mounting as part of the moulding.

All you need is bulb holders and lenses.

Thanks Chris.

I already have a carbon fiber hood and front wings. I'm trying to go lighter still...no boxes at all, just LEDs glued or clipped to the back of lenses.

If you are wanting them for street use, bear in mind that white LEDs behind a red or amber lens will not be very bright, due to the wavelength filtering of the lens. It is recommended that the LED color match the lens color.
