Remove the left rear wheel and the exhaust shield. You will see the O2 sensor in the exhaust manifold. Use a 22mm wrench to unscrew the O2 sensor.

Or a slotted O2 sensor socket.

Best to soak a few days with Kroil,..tapping it (lightly) with each penetrent application. .then have at it with something that will provide the necc'y torque. Mine popped loose easily,..the PO installed it properly!
BEST! Doyle

My brother and I just did mine last weekend. Removal was without fanfare. PB blaster on threads, waited 5 minutes or so, open end wrench on sensor, and a half dozen taps with a hammer on the wrench and it came free. I think mine was original from 1989, as i didnt see a replacement in any of my receipts.
As a note, I ended up getting the universal Bosch 3 wire at NAPA, which turned out to be kind of a bummer. They're wire connecting mechanism seems pretty hokey to me. Impossible to explain it. For a 911, you probably want the wire connectors and waterproof enclosure inside the engine bay, rather than by the exhaust, so you need to master the weird connectors at arms length in the engine bay. Not trivial. In the end it worked out ok... Of course, easy for me to say because my brother ended up doing the hard part of putting the connectors together! If you can find the OEM non universal type, I guess I'd recommend that. NAPA didn't stock them, even at the big distribution center in the twin cities... Good luck, Mark

This thread cracked me up!! My entire exhaust system is out of my 87 Carrera and I just had to remove the O2 sensor. I used a quality penetrant then heated the snot out of the threaded receptacle on the catalytic converter. I got it out on the first try but the threads are completely toast. Any suggestions on what to do next? THANKS!

I like the "BFH" approach.
