69 911 RS Style Restore

Hello all,
I am newish here been lurking for years.
my buddy/boss got a 69 911 off of here that has a 3.0 with PMO's and a 915 on it with the RS body kit metal flares and other cool bits.

We decided to make the car black and during that decision we opted to take it down to bare metal and restore it.
I am sure I will come up with questions and need help here and there so figured best to start a post

Currently the engine bay is cleaned out and moving my way forward.
here are a few pics...
I will start taking more during the process.

Here is a dropbox with more https://www.dropbox.com/sh/x4wme96zu121ipf/8j7jkZwvCN

Welcome! What do you mean by "restore it"? I doubt you intend to put that car back to it's original state as that would cost quite a bit, especially considering you don't have the correct engine (and most likely transmission, interior, body parts, etc.). It will never be worth what an original, matching numbers car is worth so I bet that isn't where you are going, so what do you plan on doing?

sorry...I guess I should have been more clear as to what I meant.
we are taking it to bear metal inside, outside, and upside down lol.
then it is going to get a new coat of black paint and then back together.

while its out we may "freshen" up the motor a bit and the gearbox is getting rebuilt.

No problem! When you say the word "restore" here we immediately start looking for ways to spend your money for you! What about suspension upgrades, track modifications, etc...

this car had some treatment from Rothsport a while back.
it has RSR Style front struts Bilstein rears, some swaybars which we are going to change
sits low and rides like a go-cart.

I planned on elephant sways and brackets.
Going to leave the shocks and struts alone but am adding elephant camber adjuster on top.

It has Boxster front brakes and carrera rears

This car drove nice and felt right.
just changing the few things on the performance side

Congrat's, looks like a very nice car with some nice bits as you've indicated.

Can't wait to see the final finish. Fix her and then drive the snot out of her !

Cheers,

The pic of the "chased weld" is common when the owner decides to not cut out all the rotten metal and try to weld in a patch.
If you can't find a good edge to work with...you might as well replace the whole piece (complete rocker...all of the floor...inner AND outer panels in some cases).
I don't use cut out pieces of other cars to repair bodies...some people do...I wish them luck...but it just never worked for me.
I buy or fab all new metal when I run into rust or rot...not as hard as you might think...several little pieces can sub in for one big piece when welded together.
Or...for outer bodies...sometimes fiberglass...if it's not a support item.
Bob

That is kinda what I was thinking Bob,
There was allot of really thick rubber spray stuff to cover up all the crap weld.

I am thinking it will need the whole rocker and then maybe I will do the pan as there is a little bent area in the left front of it.
I also found a bent area by the left bonnet shock mount which may prove to be more challenging to fix

Well...
Little more digging in today.
I have most of the interior out minus the temp controls and steering wheel switches.

Found some bent areas on the pass side roof a pillar area and down the rear window pillar.

Some more bending on the front which was expected.

I agree it does look nice in white and will look damn good in black with red decals

I am a white and black car kinda guy.
the boss has a few gulf livery porsche race cars as well.

He has been lusting over the black with red wheels and accents for a while.
that is why the decision to go black came up.

We are finding all kinds of fun stuff in the chassis that is going to need attention.
I got all the interior out and there are rust areas in the normal spots but not much.

The major issues are in bent parts.

should have it at the soda blaster in another week or so
