What do you use to protect the fenders while working on the engine?

I can't seem to find a porsche specific fender protector from our host... can someone point me to their preferred method of protecting the fenders? Suppose a towel also does the trick.

My sweatshirt that I'm wearing does a good job.

That being said, I think Griot's sells a nice protector for $25 bucks or so.

That's what I was looking for!

Well I'll be at harbor freight tomorrow picking up some other tools so I'll need to decide if its worth ~10x more than a few of these: Fender Cover Work Mat

A couple-a-three good things about the service cover - fit is excellent, very heavy duty outer with nice soft inner lining, and the long pocket across the back is very useful (can even hang my a/c gauges from it). I used one of these covers a long time ago when I worked on my car in a shop that let me be involved with a repair, and knew I had to have one.

Something tells me the Pelican one may be a bit better quality!
Colgan's site lists it at $144, so Pelican is a great deal!

I have the $25 cover from Griot's. It has removable magnets in the corners to help hold it in place. It is nice a thick and has pockets built into it to hold tools. You remove the magnets to wash the cover. I use it primarily over the bumper since most of body contact one would be doing would be from that direction. When I do the oil changes, I do drape this cover over the rear right fender to prevent any oil spills.

I have been entertaining the idea of fabricating my own custom cover like the $104 one. I figured one could buy a couple of thick towels and a couple yards of vinyl and sew them together for much less than $104. One could even get creative and get vinyl to closely match the color of ones car.

The Colgan cover is super; excellent fit. Also, very importantly, it has a thick 'hard' pad on the right side for you to set the A/C compressor on when you take it off its mount (without disconnecting the A/C lines). Very handy. Just to be sure, I slip a towel under the cover/pad when putting the compressor there as it is quite heavy. You have to remove the A/C compressor to get at the valves on the p/s upper side.
