Evaporator Box Insulation
I just removed the evaporator box from my 84 Carrera (using the great step-by-step instructions from Griffiths). On top of the evaporator is a foam insulator/seal about 2" high and about 4" in diameter. The foam over the years has decayed to the point where it simply disintegrated when I touched it. Does anyone know what I can replace it with? Thanks much!

My box was partially insulated with acorn shells.

I used polyurethane foam sponges from my kitchen cut to size with a pair of kitchen shears.

I used foam weatherstripping for doors and windows from Home Depot.
