Can I use steel open lugnuts on my Fuchs?
Im planning on installing longer studs in my hubs and have a bunch of steel open lugnuts with the correct ball seat for a Fuchs wheel. Will the steel lugnuts damage the alloy wheel? Can I use these instead of the the lightweight alloy lug nuts? If not, is there a source for open alloy lugnuts with the ball seat for a Fuchs wheel?
TIA |

Yes, just make sure to use anti-seize on the ball seat area.

If you race your car or run track events you should be running the steel lug nuts.

Yep make sure the lugs you use have the correct Porsche ball seal radius.
Take a look at these lug nuts and read the seat size designation Porsche vs. VW/Audi . You have to click on one of the lug nut type and then read the "Detailed Description" tab. There are R13mm and R14mm radius for the ball seat Results for Ball Seat Nuts:Porsche 14mm Porsche Steel Lug Nuts Track Studs does a nice job of pointing out the difference between M14 spherical seats. All VW are not necessarily the same/interchange with the Porsche seat shape!

Some of the steel nuts - T4 VW- are the correct thread and seat diameter but have a relatively shallow dome and it is possible to mark the wheel with the socket when you tighten them up. This is because the seat depth is shallower on the steel wheel.
I am not sure if the nuts Sway Away make suffer from this issue or if it is just the ones made by FEBI. WE made some in Grade 5 Titanium (6AL4V) with a deep dome to stop this from happening. ![]() Last edited by chris_seven; 08-06-2013 at 12:12 PM.. |

Very timely. Just bought 66mm studs and thanks KTL for the link on the open steel lug nuts. Any thoughts on the yellow zinc if it would look good on satin black and polished lip 17 replica Fuchs? I see the Singer has longer studs with yellowish nuts.

Gold nuts would look good with some gold PAG wheels

Factory aluminium (53.4g * 20) = 1068g
Titanium after market (18.1g * 20) = 362g 1068 - 362 Saving 706g |
