Differance between 930/02 and 930/04 motors

Hi, does any one know the differance between the 76/77 930-02 motors and the 78/79 930/04 motors. The 930/02 motor has 20 more hp nad 14 fp of torque. They look like the same motor on paper. Does anyone know how increase in power is developed? Thanks

Hi GMR,
the 930/02 is the Carrera 3.0 engine. It is based on the Turbo 3.0 block and crankshaft, it is WAY lighter then the 930/04 (SC engine) based on the Turbo 3.3engine block.

I believe the 930/04 engine should have more power, not the 930/02. This would be obvious just because of the addition of the intercooler and the increase in displacement.

Chas,
these are NA engines, not turbocharged.

Thanks George. Oops, I have no idea what the identification of my motor is so I assumed we were talking about the 930 motor. My mistake.

Noah and George have hit the high points nicely, some additional data.
My 76 C3 930/02 engine weighed in @ 405# dry w/ssi/flywheel/no clutch
the spec book lists 930/04 as 441# dry

The C3 used a 245mm 5 blade fan driven @ 1.81
The 930/04 used a 226mm 11 blade fan driven @ 1.81

Both use the same cams but the C3 timing was retarded 6&deg

The C3 used points in a cw rotating dist
930/04 used pointless ccw rotating dist

C3 used a reg speing ctr clutch
930/04 used rubber ctr

All C3 use Mahle nikasil cyl
some 930/04 used Mahlr nikasil some used KS alusil
