Engine drop support areas
Hi pelican techs, first time dropping the motor out of my race car. I have done street 911 motors before & my headers are already off to be jet hot coated. My question is, does anyone have a pic of where they supported the engine without having to do the balancing act on the center case spines? I was thinking of cutting a V in a block of wood and some kind of outriggers at the heads/valve covers strictly for support not to actually take any of the load. My engine does not have the flat round sump plate so working with the case spine is all I have to work with. Thanks for any suggestions before I hit the lumber yard.

a furniture rolling dolly works decent.
i made one that straddled the exhaust. it finally broke after about 12 drops. i kept the wheels to make another if needed. my jack pushes the dolly up agains the motor, and i simply lower it onto the rolling caster wheels. pull out the jack and roll out the motor. ![]()

I had made the dolly two years ago when the clutch in my 3.2 exploded and i used it as well a few months ago when i installed my 3.6,basically the same thing, although the 3.6 had more lower engine tin to worry about !
Cheers Phil

All great ideas & pics and hope to build this tonight, thought I would show a pic of my car too. The front bumper with red tape goes to my painter once the motor & trans are out. As noted in original post, it's my first drop on my race car which is different than having heat exchangers to rely on when I did my street cars.

My bank considers me a very good customer !!!
JJ,how much could a couple fenders and some flares cost ... I have an awesome painter,i'll send you some pics of the bumpers and rear wing he did ... does it match ??? once it gets pummeled with flying rubber debris and bug juice it'll blend in just fine ![]() You know me,i'm not a "wash my car" type of guy anyways ... lol Cheers Phil
