Question for CIS experts
I have a 1972 2.4T car with original wiring loom. The 2.4 originally came with carburetors (zenith). I now have a 3.0 engine with carburetors.
I want to switch to CIS but have been told that the CIS has four plugs that connect to the corresponding plugs on the wiring loom. My car's original loom does not have these plugs. Does anyone know if the CIS 1979-1983 will be compatible with my current set up? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

1 is the coldstart which is powered from the starter having a thermostat on the left rear chain cover
1 is the airflow sensor for cutting off the fuel pump, wasnt used on the earlier cars 1 is warm up regulator, requires 12 volts and is in series with the auxillary air regulator Bruce Dont consider myself an expert |

Thanks for the reply. There is no airflow sensor. The warm up regulator is not included in the CIS I am looking at it - it has a programmable electronic fuel regulator
Do you think I would need to wire up anything other than the fuel regulator? I guess I can power that up from my MSD box? |

dont see many going this direction.
i would use the 78-79 CIS and engine wiring harness off that car. you can then re-wire the 14 pin connector as needed. you will also need to change the CD unit and i think the tach to make it work, although if you go with an MSD, you may get off cheaper. you will need to talk more to someone that has put a 3.0 in an early car. it can be done and if you do the wiring right, it can look original.

Usually, when carbs are installed on an SC engine, work is done to the cams. First, identify the cams by checking the timing of them using a dial indicator. This will tell you if the engine will still be compatible with CIS. Second, measure an intake port diameter to determine the engine year, is it a '78/'79, or an '80-83? This will tell you which "CIS" to buy. You can also post your engine number/type number to help identify its model year. With luck, the system that you buy will have a functional fuel distributor and a harness to connect the components.

As others have posted,
What year is the engine, what type of electronic pressure regulator? No switch on the air flow throttle plate?... what year is the CIS you are considering? A stock CIS wiring harness can be wired to function normally in your car with some customization of the harness and the fuse panel area wiring.
