CIS Removal broken pipe discovery

While I was removing the CIS to get to the Triangle of Death I discovered the aluminum pipe that runs under and behind the air box was broken at the junction.

Any suggestions on a repair or work around ?
I can't get a hose & clamps in there for a splice because of where the break is located.

Would a broad muffler clamp hold it together? Or perhaps some very thin sheet metal wrapped around and held with two clamps (hose/fuel line clamps).

Replacement is best option but I dont think you ll do it in the car. I have an 80 injection system on the table so the part is available and can look to see if its doable in the car.

You might be able to do it in the car, there is 4 clamps holding it in. The most difficult would be the clamp by the 7th injector. cold start injector. 1 on the back of each diaphram and one over #5 intake.

If the motor is out.....remove and replace or have it welded.

CIS is being removed with engine in car

I have done a partial drop and removed all the manifold runners.
I am removing the CIS and making all the usual repairs.
I guess I will be needing a new pipe.

Unless………Can i strip down the CIS and run it without the AAR and Decel Valve ?

Is there a way to run a stripped down version of the CIS without all the plumbing ?

I do not have to pass omissions.
I know….. I am going straight to Hell... but hopefully I will be going in an Old Porsche ;-)

JB Weld…. very Macgiver Like…….That I have on hand.
Maybe graft in a piece of aluminum tubing…like a shunt or stent.
This could work.
It is not like I a moving fuel here, it is just air.

I believe the part is number 46.
I looked around for this part for my 1980sc with no luck.

I might have one (maybe even two!) of those but I'll have to check tonight and let you know. Are '78 - 79 and '80 up the same? I may have one of each!

Those were my thoughts as well.
It did not start well but it did run fine once warmed up.

I have read where holes or cracks have been created in this pipe
due to vibration.

I did notice looking through my old photos that the rubber support by the number six runner was not connected.
Perhaps this was the cause of the break.

Cause of Pipe break

From the photos i took before disassembly it looks like the bracket was not reconnected
to the rubber mount in front of number six runner. Either that or it came loose some how over the years from vibration.

I am not sure if they are all the same.
I will do some more research.

I went and looked at the pipe on the '82 system I have. It is totally screwed up and not usable. (Well, maybe you could in a "cut and weld" sort of fashion) The P/O's mechanic (or someone) pinched the pipe in two places, obviously to shut off it's function from the decel valve and AAR. I'm pretty sure this was done on purpose, I doubt it could have happened in shipping. (I suppose I should give them the benefit of the doubt, but . . .)

So it's essentially history. That's the "loose" system I have stored here at work. When I'll get home this afternoon I will check the one on the pre-'80 system that's currently installed on my engine and let you know. I'm not going to reinstall the CIS, so everything I have is essentially surplus.
