Just for kicks I Googled "Bypassing Deceleration Valve and Auxiliary Air Regulator" and came up with a thread on this forum about that from 2007 (and there may be others). It appears that both of those components (and thus the pipe you're having trouble with) can be removed with little ill-effects and some positive ones.

Apparently (at least then) that was seen as a way of improving some aspects of performance; you need to look for that thread and read it. So it appears you could do without the pipe and just plug the holes.

HOWEVER that would affect originality and also might affect passing emissions testing, if you have to deal with that. I'm sure a lot of other people on this forum can chime in here with more information than I've just thrown out.

In the meantime I will still look for that other pipe for you this evening.

AIR PIPE Wore thru oil cooler shroud

Due to the air box not having the right side brace attached to the rubber mount the weight of the box wore a hole through the oil cooler shroud

I see you've got some offers for another part, but I looked tonight on the engine in my car and found that the pipe on it is in fine condition. Which begs the question why did the P/O's mechanic (he wasn't a DIY'er) FUBAR one and not the other.

(Explanation here: In search of the elusive .000001 second on the Auto-X course, my'82 engine was backdated to '78-'79 specs, with the large port heads and large runner earlier CIS. I can't go back to '82 stock because I don't have the heads. So I will go with Tbitz. Lot to do before then though.)

Anyway, here are photos of the FUBAR'd pipe as well as the good one that I have.

You can delete that and run a bypass pipe but you still need to connect the cold start auxilery air regulator in line! I have this on my 914-6 with an 83sc injected motor but I do not have to worry about smog so I wouldn't do it on your car!

PS: The soft line will colapse if you dont put something to keep it from doing so! I pushed a 1/2" copper pipe in to keep it from closing!

Here is a photo before I put the motor in my 914!

The only reason they used aluminium is because it's a vacuum pipe normal rubber hose will suck in and block air flow.

You can use appropriate diameter brake booster hose and some brass or plastic 'T' pieces as a workaround.
