I need Info about 3,8 RS engine.
I have located a 3,8 RS (964) engine who is newely repaired. (340 HP)
So what type of gearbox fits on this? Kan I take the four wheel drive gearbox from 964 C4? How much does this engine weight? /J

The RS 3.8 is basically a hopped-up RS 3.6 engine - with a few differences:
- larger piston diameter, but with the same stroke - slightly lower compression ratio (11:1 vs 11.3:1) - different Motronic version - different rocker arms and valves, probably other minor changes - more hp (300hp vs. 250hp) - the RSR (race) version has 325hp, not sure about your 340hp number (I think these numbers are correct, but they're coming off the top of my head, so may be rounded off). No idea how much it weighs, but the RS 3.8 weighs about 150kg less than the RS 3.6, so I'm guessing the engine is either lighter or there's not much increase at all. Can you put a C4 transmission on it? Probably, I don't think there're any really radical differences to a normal 3.6 as found in the C4 that'd stop you, but definitely don't take my word for it. :edit - I mis-remembered what you said, thought you said 350hp rather than 340 (see what I mean about rounding off?)

The 964 based 3.8 RS was offered in 1993 only it was assembled in the racing department , used the same 76.4mm stroke as all other 964s but w/ 102mm bore for 3746cc displacement. It had 6 individual throttle bodies located close to the ports for better throttle response(interestingly the 3.8RSR raised them for better power) intake valves were 51.5mm(rather than 49mm), exhaust valves were 43.5mm(rather than 42.5mm), ports were stock 964 but cleaned up, cr was raised to 11.6(from a nominal 11.3). Power was 300PS @ 6500 torque was 360Nm@ 5250, engine weight was ~225kg
The 3.8 RSR engines developed from the 3.8RS are all out race engines developing an unrestricted 375 ps, w/ a 48mm restrictor in place that dropped to 360 ps It sounds like the engine you found may have the racing cams(and perhaps the raised throttle bodies ) of the RSR. Theese engines are not really streetable needing to be kept above 4000rpm. The going price here in N.A. for a 3.8 RSR w/ all the goodies seems to be ~$25-30K, so the price you quoted is probably reasonable if it is in good shape and as described.

I´m planing on building me a real racecar under this winter, with fully carbon chassie and hopefully four wheeldrive. The thougt I have is to even take it out on the strip and meet the four wheeldrive japs. It´s not that fun to take my 930 out on a track or strip one day and the other are I´m out crusing or something.. It´s two kind of worlds I think. (Racing & Finish is tuff to have together..) /J
