Nice job! Is that a 3.0L? I dropped an '87 3.2 into my '77 Targa 4 years ago; what a difference with the increased liters, stainless steel headers, a chip, K&N air induction, and a few other goodies. Where did you get the stainless steel plates and pedals? The only thing I would really like to change inside is to add a steel plate over the area to the left of my clutch pedal, where the brake system (I believe) intrudes into the cockpit. The existing carpet snags on most rubber soled shoes in my size 13 feet. Topsiders work OK, but the grip on my running shoes has caused a few blown shifts.

It's a 3.6, but I'm glad my disguise is working!

Got the front oil cooler installed. I was going to notch the area behind it for better air flow, but I've never had an issue with my other car, so if it gets hot I'll do it later. I also finished up a few open issues on the rear suspension and bumper. I also determined that my Dansk 2in/2out banana muffler won't fit, so I order some parts from Summit to fab up a new set up. Here's a few pics:

I can't believe the f'ed up wiring in this car! So far I've pulled cut up extension cords, 4 conductor telephone cable, and speaker wire used to wire critical components.

However, I added oil to the engine, tightened up the last few connectors, and bolted the seat back in. I also tested the new wiring and all seems ready for first start!

My muffler, mandrel bends, and flanges should be here Wednesday. All that's left is to weld up a new exhaust and drive off into the sunset...

...well, there is a couple hours of tuning, shake down, fixing what ever little issues pop up. Of course, all this depends on the used 3.6 that I bought not having any internal issues...

Engine looks cool!

I know the feeling, the 2nd PO was an electrician... so anything that did not work he just re-wire like if it was a house :rolleyes::rolleyes:

My magnaflow muffler and a bunch of mandrel bends from Summit showed up yesterday, so I spent today measuring, cutting, and welding up my exhaust system. Tomorrow is first start!

Ouch!, I R Lektrishun too! But I've never wired a house or used house wiring in a car.

At least 3 different types of electrician licenses in Canada, Construction, Industrial and Power.
I have a Power Electrician License from Manitoba. Work on 500,000 volt stuff, can't fit 4"- 8" aluminum bus in our cars... ;)

Can't wait to read about your first start, that exhaust looks great :)

Thanks, Dennis, and for your help and insight on the wiring.

First start is always traumatic, particularly when it is an engine I bought used on this forum. I'll just hope for the best!

Victory is mine! This thing sounds badass and it is the perfect sound level. A nice rumble, but no drone or resonance. Just perfect!

The front oil cooler is leaking, but I almost don't care. Everything else is perfect and I'll fix it later this week.

Oh yeah, tap the picture for the video.

Congrats...enjoy in good health!

mreid 03-23-2014 02:21 PM

Thanks, JJ, I'm having two or three with the wifey as we speak!

It took four tries. Wasn't getting enough fuel, so I opened the mixture another half turn. Then advanced the timing a bit. She coughed and roared to life. An hour of carb balancing and turning and she sounds purdy!
