Where did "Pelican" get its name?

OK, I'm pathetically new here... and I have no idea where "Pelican Parts," and, by extension, this forum got its name. Surely, there's a good story here!

All the best,

Rob

The large bill/beak on the majestic pelican is synonymous with Wayne's bank account and represents where all of the cash from us Porsche addicts ends up.

Wayne, just having some fun on this one. I have no clue of where the Pelican name originated, but just glad it's here to perform a very valuable service to the community.

m1franck is partially correct.

the beak of the pelican is synonymous of the bill when we're done shopping here and hit the check out button.

The story goes that Wayne and (I believe) Pelican's co-founder were trying to think of a name for this new Porsche parts company, having thought of all sorts of different ideas. While the two of them were standing outside near the shore a Pelican flew by and the light bulb was illuminated.

This is close, however, while on the beach he and his partner were experimenting with powerful psychedelics drugs at the time when they saw a large pelican holding a 24mm combo wrench in his right wing and the rest is history...

He figured Nigerian Parts just didn't have the right ring to it.

His child was just born and someone quipped, "The stork brings happiness." A pelican is bigger, so...

I heard he went out to dinner but the restaurant he went to was out of of chicken but they did have Pelican on the menu. So Wayne asked what part of the Pelican do you serve? The waiter replied, "Only the best parts, of course." So Wayne thought to himself, "Best Pelican Parts, Porsche is the best" and Pelican Parts was born.

I think Wayne picked a good name, the thinking behind not using something car-performance-german name is solid.

Especially now given 'Volvo', 'Saab' and 'Mini' !
I agree a great name - instantly recognizable.

Picking a German-only name doesn't fit if your long-term plan involves global domination.

Which is why I aim to be in on the ground floor!

Catchy Name, you don't forget it. Now all Wayne needs to do is come up with a catchy jingle. Maplelicious!
