1973 911e mfi running way too rich!!
I cant figure out my fuel problem on my car. I just got my mfi pump back from my Porsche mechanic. he adjusted the pump back to factory specs. its the 2nd time he adjusted it for me. the car run smooth in the garage the first time he adjusted it, but I tried to fix an oil leak on the pump and screwed it up. so I sent it back out to him. anyways, it running way to rich now. it wont even stay running for me.. im thinking it could be the distributor. when I pulled the vacuum advance. it didn't raise the idle. how do I know if my distributor is working right. my Porsche mechanic thinks it has to be a ignition problem.

Check, Measure, Adjust.
If you search those terms or CMA here you should come up with the "Ultimate MFI Resources Thread" or some similar title where you can get a copy of CMA. You will verify the pump rod is 114mm, throttle bodies are correctly adjusted, etc. before suspecting the pump.

If you think it may be a timing issue, what do the points and rotor look like? Have you checked with a timing light and dwell meter? Also, make sure all the ignition wires are going to the correct spark plug.

yes all the above is good. all new plugs wires points rotor and cap. the weirs thing, prior to taking off the mfi pump, the car idled and revved great. then took pump off to get oil leak fixed and readjusted properly. now its running way too rich. I think it mmight be the distributor. how can they be checked? I pulled the vacuum line off the distributor, nothing happens, its doesn't speed up like it should

Have you pulled the spark plugs to see if one may be fouled or wet with gas from not firing?
Trying to find out why you think it is the distributor if you say the timing is good. Does the timing jump around, or stay steady? You should have base timing of 5' atdc with the vacuum line connected. When you pulled the vacuum line, did you check with the timing light to see if it advanced 10 degrees to 5' btdc with the vacuum line plugged. Max advance must not go past 38' above 6000 rpm. Here is the timing chart, if the timing light shows your timing is between the lines, the distributor should be ok. If not, then you may want to pull the distributor and check the shaft for play, and that the advance weights are moving freely. Distributor Maintenance ![]()
