AFM rebuilding? Is it possible?
Hi all,
So I've looked at lots of posts which explain how to move the copper arm back or forward to get a clean contact sweap but in opening up my AFM (1986 3.2) I've found that this has already been done and I'm not really able to adjust it any more. I see a refurbished unit is $925.00!!!! From the host! Wow does any know any other tricks ( maybe a unit from a 944 or something?) to keep my old unit working or a place where I could get one at a more easily digested price? Thanks, Hans Last edited by Hans H; 09-13-2014 at 04:11 PM.. Reason: Follow up question |

It may be just a lack of imagination, but the set screw securing the pointer will allow you an infinite amount of adjustment for mixture and when you add to that, the amount of spring tension adjustment at your disposal on the clockspring by rotating the toothed wheel should have you overwhelmed with joy. Joe,
Thanks for the input, it appears that the pick-up surface has 3-4 deep grooves worn in. I'll try to set the arm between them but I was hoping to find a more secure fix. Thanks again, Hans |

Yeah this is a tough one. The potentiometer surface is not sold separately from BOSCH, I asked :-/
That is why I bought a spare from a donor 88 3.2.

I used an MAF from DME Shop in Germany. Spendy, but works flawlessly, car runs great getting about a 1 mpg increase, I think that is from the less restrictive nature of the MAF. Got about 3000 miles, wouldn't go back, replacement hotwire replacement is available on eBay for $65.00 or so.
Just installed a MAF intake kit on my 964/3.6 transplant motor. Simple & awesome!
