I don't have carbs but an EFI turbo. I originally vented into the engine compartment but the fumes sucked into the heater were too much. This winter I ran a hose parallel to the AC suction hose and vented under the car next to the starter.

on the threads you find, pay attention to Grady's comments (as usual)
e.g. the hose to the can wants to be big - the one in pic #1 looks to be too small to me |

Why aren't you venting the crankcase to the oil tank and then venting the tank with a catch can/breather? Even the hardcore racers that install a front trunk-mounted oil tank vent the crankcase all the way up to the tank and then vent the tank with a catch can w/breather.

I made mine out of an old A/C receiver dryer. I gutted the insides, made a hole in the end for the filter and used PVC connectors. I had the guy at the parts store look around for curved hoses till we found one that would work. The engine vents to the oil tank then this vents the oil tank. The small line is there simply because I didn't have a fitting to plug the hole so I just put a line on it and and it also goes to the oil tank PCV connection. I got the reciever for free from the scrap pile at a radiator shop.
Forgot to mention if you do this put the hole for the filter in the other end. ![]() ![]()

Also when you blow your front crank seal at 7000 rpm all over the nice shop owners pretty dyno because you left the restrictor in the used hose because to tight to buy a new one, you quickly find that a new vent line of substantial size is a good investment..

LOL, I forgot to remove mine. I actually blew the crankcase vent hose off at the oil tank at about 6000 rpm on the steady state dyno and it acted like a fire hose spraying oil 20' behind us. Not much got on the dyno but the bay floor was a mess.

That is a good idea as catch can are way over priced and about the same size as the water bottle

good stuff, thanks!
kevin, it should have stated oil tank not crank case...... my bad trog, is the heat in the motor area too much for the water bottle's plastic cap? has that passed race tech for nasa, pca or scca? i do like that idea a lot. the summit units mentioned have 6 an fittings & i might expect that to be too small?? thoughts Last edited by car 311; 02-27-2010 at 11:24 AM.. |
