Engine to transmission stud pulling on 2.7
Hello all. After not having any progress this year on my ride I decided to try and at least start tackling some of the engine seals and pulling the exchangers off my engine. (See my thread here.) I got as far as attaching the engine yoke to the case. When I started tightening the nuts, the top right stud (the one that holds the starter with barrel nut) started to pull right out of the case with little effort.
What do I need to do to fix this? I'm guessing something similar to the head studs but I have no experience with this type of repair. Thanks.

Do an internet search for Time Sert. These are very easy to install and allow you to keep using the original size bolts (where as helicoils have you increasing the size bolts). Time Serts have you drill out the hole, tap new threads, and then install the time sert which locks itself into place. Once installed, the original bolts will work again. Everything you need is in the time sert kit.
Lastly, a time sert kit is fairly expensive (I think about $80-$100), however, many people sell their kits after they are done so you might check eBay (you just need to know the size bolt you are working on). |

Thanks for the reply. I will read up on the time serts. Sounds like it won't be that big of a deal after all.

Here's a couple of photos of when I installed Time Serts for my exhaust studs. The time serts have a special thread that when you install with a special tool (shown in my 1st photo), the sert expands into the hole and then stays very tight.
