Please help me identify this engine.

I had a fellow come into my shop to offering to sell me a car, I passed on the car and asked him what else they had for Audi/Porsche/VW. He mentions that they had an old Porsche engine in the back of their plow truck just using it for dead weight for better traction. I'm thinking an old 924 lump. He says it has a giant turbo on it. I'm thinking maybe a 944 turbo? Still wasn't too interested. He says he'll send pictures. Pictures arrive next morning. It's a aircooled flat six. And... It has a red air shroud. We agree on a price and he delivers it later that day. It is complete from exhaust to carbs. The engine is numbered 6381380. Does this make it a 1968 S? *the giant turbo he was talking about was actually the fan. Last edited by FEA; 12-06-2014 at 06:50 AM.. |

You have a motor out of a K programme 1978 911 SC. Could be from a coupe or targa. This info is from Peter Morgan's book Original Porsche 911 The guide to all production models 1963-98

Look for the engine type number, stamped to the right of the engine number, on the flat of the engine case. Should be a 911/XX number.

So, this was originally a CIS engine? That year would make this a 2.7? Any estimate on the value? I'm mainly an Audi/VW guy but do enjoy the Porsches as well. I've had a '73 targa T and right now have a '99 911 and '99 boxster. Thanks for the help guys. |

6381830 is from a 1978 911SC, a 3.0 litre, 930/03 or 930/13 type, 180hp, CIS injection
