That's one reason I love having only my rear window tinted. None of my side windows are tinted, so I can see very well at night, but have the cooling effect of the large rear tinted.

It also keeps the cabin a little darker, which also helps outward visibility in the day, and makes the car look like it's got tinted sides.

Back in the day, I had an '87 Honda CRX Si with the factory option rear window louver covering and it did the same thing. I loved that as well. Kept the car cooler and the cabin darker but didn't have any ill effects at night.

Nice move. I was at the north end of the bay. Tint also creates a monolithic look, especially with black trim & black paint.

Mine are tinted, but with only a very light (almost invisible) film that blocks UV and a significant portion of IR light to reduce heat soak in the summer. Even up here in the Great White North, a dark car with a dark interior can get pretty warm inside.

That was my point, regarding night time visibility.

Find a local guy that installs LLumar Window Films - in clear. I've had it on numerous vehicles and it does wonders. Don't forget to do the windshield.

I would preserve originality in the car. Not that you're thinking of selling it. But given the insanity in the past couple years on pricing of only slightly older cars, the SC's day may come soon. Keep your options open.

I have little doubt it will. SCs are already twice the price they were 5 years ago.

I have really dark tint on my BMW e39 daily driver(was on the car when I bought it). I hate the look. With a passion. And I have already gotten a ticket for it when driving through a small town in Northeast PA.

BUT.....my interior looks like brand new, on a 13 year old car.

I like the idea of the UV protection in clear. I hope it works as good as the dark stuff, so I can have my cake and eat it too.

OP - In your case, I would forgoe the tint. Stock is trick.

Where I live, tint is more of a necessity than an option. I actually think it looks good with guards red though.

i too prefer the non-tint look. had nearly clear film applied to my 997 s, to protect both my hide and the cars; even the windshield.

Tint is easy to remove so I wouldn't worry about keeping it original.

I'm debating doing mine but front window tint gets you a ticket here in CA, and I don't like the look of a partially tinted car so I'm leaning towards the clear film for UV protection.

If you want a tint that looks dark but is easy enough to see the insides of the car , speak to chris on the Hb tint link I posted earlier .
This has been done 2 years now without a ticket .
Cops don't like it if they can't see in the car when they pull you , and like a porsche the beetle doesn't have roll down back windows so I'd suggest a light one .
(From a strait-on angle you can see strait through the car)

This is another he has done for me .
On a light colored car they help accentuate the shape , even these light tints are too much on a black car IMHO .

I've been meaning to get back to him to get a clear put on my 997 , but haven't had time yet .

Here's another one that's slightly darker .
It had to be has it has smokey glass on the rear , or I would have gone clear ...

The beauty of this one is all 4 windows can be rolled down when an officer approaches .
Although I haven't had that happen , it IS something you should do .
I'd rather deal with a calm at-ease cop than one on edge with his hand on his gun !!

We bought a cop's car which had a limo blackout rear window. The side windows were almost as dark. Backing it at night was a major problem until I removed it. If you are going to tint, take the advice of the people above and go as light as possible with a good sun reflective material. Black out reminds me of drug dealers, but that is just where I shop.
