I think that gasket comes with the mesh screen, though might be wrong. My track cars are so far down the road from wondering about this level of detail that I've stopped trying to remember.
You certainly are determined to go through all this trouble just to get a low amp switched and fused lead for a gauge. Unless the gauge goes into the space vacated by the clock or something else, you are faced with getting the power wire through the bulkhead to the gauge you have mounted somewhere in the cockpit. Of course, you may face the same issue with your signal wire from the gauge sender. However, there are wires under the dash in the cockpit which can be tapped for switched 5V. The radio lead, for instance, or the fresh air fan control. |

Thanks - could easily be correct. I'll call PP or Parts Heaven and see what they sayask the same question re. that gasket.
I was just getting in there to fix the cigarette lighter so it will have power again. I also converted the Euro. size to US size on the inside diameter of the cig. lighter. What a hassle to get the fan/etc. out and back in.

Here's a quick and dirty way to convert the Euro (larger) size cigarette lighter receptacle to US. From the bushings you saved from broken rocker arms (or from replacing them), shove one in. The US plug will be a tight fit, but not so tight it isn't functional.

Good one. First time I heard that. Not sure if I threw out my old bushings.

Well, I have a bag of these used bushings (among other things, from breaking all 12 rockers at once when teeth departed from the aluminum IS gear)and so far have used just this one. I had Cgarr rebush my collection of old rockers that could be refurbished. So this is a kind of tongue in cheek suggestion, as who would save stuff like this? I hear that from my wife.
It may be that there is some tubing size which would serve this purpose and cost peanuts. |

The advantage of modifying the cigarette-asm. can from FLAPS is the rounded entry and possibly easy to pull out to go back to stock. I wonder if the electrical air pump will fit connector will fit in the US sized/modded lighter. I have a back up harness I made that connects my pump directly to the battery - which might be a good idea in any case - the stock pin contact could easily be over heated or fall out just when you want to inflate the spare. The stock connection is not very good IMO.

Well, that's an interesting set of questions. If I was stuck I would inflate and try and drive on it. Why not? If it goes flat then work something else out, if I get to a tire shop then good. Of course I would not test the spare at 100 mph. Are you suggesting I keep a full size spare or just call the flat bed or ?.

+1, HC. Though for some situations what Porsche now does could work - a can of fixaflat to blow into the tire which went down. Porsche must have realized that actual blowouts on their cars nowadays are few and far between, while punctures are about as common as ever?

Walt - that's a good idea to keep one of those fixaflat cans in the car. I didn't think of that.
