Lightbulb High Beam indicator light - not visible

Anyone have a working high beam indicator light in the tach but the plastic is so dark that it cannot be seen?

Looking for a good solution besides drilling out the old plastic and using a blue bulb.

Pete

In other words another little common defect worthy of research, almost as much fun as getting a set of hood struts to work.

BTW

In the last 3 weeks after 1 set of Stabilus and 2 sets of StrongArm struts I found some Meyle struts (German) here in Canada that work!! So far that is..see if they still work in 3 weeks

Sorry Wayne, I wanted to order your HD units but was too sceptical after all my attempts. I didn't want to chance the customs and postage

Has anyone solved this issue? I got some grief during a state inspection that my indicator didn't work, but the issue is that even with a new bulb, the light barely shows in the indicator.

The light in my '86 is bright blue. No issue at all. Maybe a speedo shop would have a new blue indicator for you?

I solved this problem with an old VW turn signal warning light by installing a 6Volt bulb. Ran twice as bright as the 12V bulb.

Do the VW bulbs have the same base type? The porsche dash light base seems pretty unique, I'm not sure wher to start looking for a 6v version

You have the hood strut problem too? I ordered new ones from Pelican, and the stupid things are no better than the old ones. They just slow the hood down, they don't hold it. I need to call Pelican, since they're brand new, but unless they pay return shipping it's not even worth messing with. Meyle huh? Probably not avaliable in Great Bend KS. Ever tried the Weltmeister ones with the lifetime guarantee?

On the hood shocks, I went with Marine grade shocks used for decks and portholes. Cheaper, heavier rated and stainless steel.

Isn't that the way it is, someone ask a question about a high beam indicator light bulb, and now we are talking about hood struts?????????

Porsche Crest Struts

I solved the strut problem with the German units mentioned in my post...the real key to working right > 50 degree weather. I find anything below 50 and they don't hold at all.

My hood struts work remarkably better above 50 as well.

But back to the high beam indicator. I'm not much of an electrician, how long will a 6v bulb last in a 12v system?

I'm not sure if this matters ?

I move the lids relatively slowly to Maybe help prevent leakage.
I haven't had a problem, ever.

Mike, which struts are you using? Can I get them out of West Marine? Gotta order some boat parts now that it's March....

6V Bulb Not very long at all?

TechGuy
I never had any problems with the bulb blowing? Turn signal indicator so that fact it was not on constantly maybe helped?
Have you tried cleaning the blue lens from inside speedo?
If you want to try a 6v bulb I'm sure I'll have one somewhere, send me a pm with your address.
