1978SC: Missing resistor between hazard flasher and light switches

The light in my hazard flasher switch never worked. While fixing another issue I noticed that there is no wire plugged into slot 58 on the switch.

The wiring diagram seems to indicate that there is a wire from 58 on the hazard switch to slot 58A on the light switch but I can't find it.

Is this just a short "jumper" wire? The diagram says the wire changes from black/blue to brown to the resistor to brown to black/red.

On a related note the resistor appears to be NLA. Can anyone suggest a "radio shack" resistor that I can wire up?

When I was reinstalling the harnesses in my 80SC I had the pleasure of performing continuity tests for each circuit to make sure the wiring matched the schematics. In my case the light in the hazard switch did not illuminate at night with the interior dash lights on. At terminal 58a of the light switch there was a resistor and the other end of the resistor was not connected to terminal 58 of the hazard switch. The resistor wire was folded over and terminated with shrink wrap. In my opinion it looked like it was professionally done and not by a previous owner. I reconnected the resistor wire to terminal 58 of the hazard switch. Now when the dash lights are on the hazard switch light is illuminated. Its is not overly bright because it is in series with the resistor. Also the light dims with the rest of the dash when using the dimmer function for the dash lighting. Now at night I can actually see the switch.

Thanks Pat; I'm planning on crawling under the dash today and see what, if anything, is connected to the light switch at 58a.

Between the cold and my body mass, it is not an easy chore.

Targa80 states the difference between the ROW and the US requirements for the hazard flasher. For ROW vehicles, the switch light does NOT need to be lit when the headlights are on. The US specs require the light to come on, dimly, when the headlights are turned on. I had to add the connecting wire with the resistor in 1987 when I imported my ROW car to the US.

The hazard switch had a dangling ground wire connected to (I think) pin 31. That ground is supposed to go all the way to G5 in the luggage compartment. Fishing it through seemed like a most difficult task, so I found an empty male spade at G2 behind the heater/defroster controls.

So I'm half way home with this fix. The flasher bulb now blinks when I engage the flashers; just need to find the diode and connect up 58 to 58A.

and I ponder what should have been connected to that empty ground connector at G2......
