Item of unknown origin
All,
My first post on a soon to be started resto of a '73 911T. There is a metal container rolling around in the front boot of the car that is connected to a rubber hose on one end and looks like was originally connected to another rubber hose on the other end. It is oily and a mess now. it is a couple inches thick, rounded to a oval shape and maybe 8 inches long. Any ideas what this is? I could include photos if needed. |

I'm guessing it's the charcoal canister for the fuel vapor recovery system. #3?
![]() I think the expansion tank is in the fender well, #2.

Yes, it is #3.
I assume it is important to the fuel system. Is its position vital or can it be moved to a spot, potentially higher in the fender? Also, can I use braided hose rather than rubber to plumb it? |

Go with braided.
I think Wayne has it here. Size will be the speed bump. I have never been able to figure out exactly what the parts diagrams meant when stating size. Here is a place that sells them. If its rolling around, like mine was years ago, you will also need the rubber band/strap that keeps it in place.

Thanks for the links and info. Mine is definitely rolling around, albeit in a sticky pool of oil at the moment.
