Top Speed

I found some old pix of my 84 Carrera, and one of them was showing my top speed. It's hard to make it out on the photo, since I wasn't entirely comfortable focusing on focusing the camera for obvious reasons, but the tach is at readline and the speedo is pointing to 260kph.

This car is an all stock European Carrera targa in Prussian Blue Metallic

I drove the Charlotte Superspeedway several years ago. I did not get to redline in 5th but it was over 5500 RPM. The engine was screaming and the track mandated windows down so the wind noise was high. I don't know what the speed was. The track that three professionals go down door to door was only a foot wide to my mind.

I have zero desire to try to go faster in my car. I have a thousand time more fun taking a 30 MPH corner at 29.95 MPH at an autocross. THe infield track at Charlotte is fun, and driving the oval is a blast but just a bit intimidating.

OP--do you have a rear wing?

I've only come close to those speeds but quickly turn yellow because my rear gets LIIIIGHT.

That + my toe-out settings make it particularly darty at +130MPH

OP, you should be hangin' onto the steering wheel better than that for those speeds. Unless the car was on axle stands at the time.

I did not have a rear spoiler at that time.

Top speed.

During our factory delivery
on the way to Switzerland.

While holding the analog camera,
we were able to "Touch" the 160 mark.

Thank you for your kind words.

You know there is this new invention called "auto focus". You don't need to use both your hands and actually look at what you are doing. You should check it out...

Nah, it's a testament to the stability of the car at high speeds.

According to gps my stock 80 sc did 240kph at redline with tea tray spoiler. I removed spoilers front and back and there is no way I will be getting close to that speed without spoilers. With spoilers it felt planted but without it gets to feel unstable at higher speeds. Maybe my tach is off but if not I can not see myself doing 160 without spoilers

I have to agree with you.

Due to noticeable front end lift,
I held the posted speed for just a few seconds,
then lowered down to about 140.

Here's a long time question of mine.

Does having the targa top open disrupt the airflow enough to make a difference in stability or the lack thereof with or without the spoilers at speed ? I have seen the coupe numbers with or w/o the spoilers but how about them targa's ?

I haven't really noticed a difference whether my targa top is on or off.
I had my car up to 143mph once with the roof off. Felt pretty stable to me.
(i have front and rear Carrera spoilers)
