Door dehinge or unhinge? That is the question
I'm doing a full rebuild. Body shell has rust holes.
Been avoiding the doors but they are standing out now due to the lack of any other part on the car. I was told I should knock the pins out of the hinges so I would have no door alignment problems during reassembly. Area around hinges seems sound and should need no work. Most people on here seem to simply unbolt the hinges from the car and re align them afterwards. What's the best thing to do. Just knock the pins out or remove the hinges completely? If it's the pins, how do I get them out without damaging anything?

I'd unbolt them and remove them with the doors. Realigning the doors later is relatively straight forward. Plus you get to see what's under the plates.
To remove the pins you need a slide hammer and claw to grab to tops of the pins. This works well if you have to right tool but the tool can be expensive unless you make your own. ![]() ![]()

Wow thanks Peter!
Looks like I have a new lathe project. Looks fun to build and I'm sure I'll need it at some stage. Think I will unbolt for now. Just needed someone with experience to confirm what I suspected.
