Front Bumper Backdate Question .. Please help ..

Hi Pelicans,

I've read all threads here but couldn't find an answer to my question:

I am backdating a 83 SC, bought fiberglas front fender and a fiberglass hood (and a rear fiberglas bumper), everything fits beautifully.

Now I am in the market for a front bumper and people from a local shop told me, that the early front bumper won't fit b/c its about half an inch to short and not as wide as the SC (or 2.7 RS which i bought) front fender. The S bumper will fit probably (what an answer) so the only one that surely fits is the RS bumper.

Can you guys help me out with that? Which one fits and which doesn't?! And add question, what do I have to do to make the early front bumper fit (in case it doesn't)?

Thanks guys ..

If a bumper wasn't going to fit for the reasons you were told, I'd say it would be the rear. And that would be due to the flairs.

The fiberglas rear bumper works perfectly ..

Thing is now - I want to buy a front bumper but one that fits .. Heard that the early bumper won't, the S maybe and the RS obviously ..

Any thoughts?

Well, I believe there are differences in the dimensions when referring to SWB and LWB front bumpers.

But only talking in terms of LWB bumpers, since you are backdating a LWB car, the S front bumper was a standard bumper with a spoiler added, and the RS bumper was an S bumper with an oil cool opening added to the center. So I believe it will fit.

Here is are a couple backdate threads using a standard bumper

This started as a kind of RS backdate and turned into an early longhood backdate with standard front bumper.
