Front Windshield Glass Resource Needed
Been tolerating what I believe is nonPorsche glass upfront for years in my Targa. Bottom line... windshield is too short widthwise to make a proper fit. I've got gaps at all corners. I won't mention the several year "temp fix." Checked on Porsche glass. New windshield = $1,000. Great... for Porsche. Surly there's a more economical path to a good fitting windshield.
Rather than do a DC, Okla, LA Dis, etc. for a used part, am wondering if there are branded companies---like Safelite or similar / city local---that offer correctly fitting 911 windshield glass?

I did mine at Alpha Auto Glass in Fort Lauderdale, check them out, they have great reviews. they knocked it out early in the morning in just a few hours, and since I had a small stone chip in my windshield it was free.
Retail cost was 600 or so, installed. They also had it at their shop within a day, and they're local. EDIT: Forgot to mention. This was all for the Sekurit glass

Call your insurance, in florida they are required to repair or replace it. When Geico said they would send someone out to repair it, I said I preferred that it be replaced and they didn't argue with me. I don't know if that's standard operating procedure or not.
I was also able to dictate that I wanted to work with Alpha, and I told Alpha about the issue with the aftermarket glasses and they were really great about finding the Sekurit one, getting approval for the "premium" glass with Geico, and getting it all done. Can't recommend them enough. You won't even have to pay a deductible. CHEERS

Cool. Hope it works out for you & let us know what you think of their operation.
I've been meaning to order up a 964 windshield from them to put in my '86, with the 964 seal of course. But I keep procrastinating.

Karl,
I replaced my front windshield for ~$120 through Safelite. They have a warehouse in Atlanta across town from where I live. Went straight there and picked it up. It is likely the Chinese aftermarket stuff. It seems to fit ok. Even the original glass (marked 'West Germany') did not fit properly. When I bought my car it had started de-laminating in the corners and once remove it revealed rust in the pinch seams. I ground the affected areas down to bare metal and then treated the whole window opening with POR-15. I always harp about making sure you use the right seals (because I made that mistake), so keep that in mind...

I had safelite replace mine last week. The first windshield arrived broken. They broke the second while installing. The third time was the charm and it fits and looks perfect. They even got the aluminum trim straighter than I had it. $435 total including a new gasket and tax.

Safelite has it for $161. glass only. Non-heated. Said they'd "take back if it doesn't fit...as long as there's no goop on it."
Seal --- What determines if seal is correct or crap?

Spend the money for a Genuine Porsche seal! A leaky windshield is a pain and a few bucks spent is worth not having the headaches. Here is a treatise on the differences among the several types available. (thanks to "Universeman")
Detailed differences between aftermarket and Porsche windshield seals

This. I was getting leaks into my cabin due to the bad aftermarket seal and glass.
After the Sekurit glass and Porsche seal, no more leaks. For what it's worth, I did call Safelite and the brand of glass they gave me was the same short glass I had in it - I'd still recommend the Sekurit if you can
