Is there a voltage guage that would fit the clock position

I'm tired of years of staring at the stupid useless nonfunctioning clock and would like to replace it with a voltage gauge (preferably). Is there any voltage gauge that would fit that spot and look like the other stock gauges. I have white face gauges with the black ring, which probably makes it a little harder but thought I would try. I understand the clock is 80mm in diameter. I'm not interested in fixing the clock.

Perhaps you already know, but there are several shops that repair gauges and have put voltmeters or whatever in the clock position. You may need a 'donor' gauge. Not sure of the cost or turnaround time.

If you just want a voltage gauge, you can buy ones which plug into the cigarette lighter. But they are not something you'd use for the clock hole.

A tuna fish can is just about the right size for this hole, so if you were into making your own stuff, that would be a good start. But the result, with a digital voltmeter or whatnot attached, would not look like a Porsche VDO gauge. Something like that could be made to hold a VDO voltage gauge, though, so it wouldn't look entirely out of place.

I have been planning this for a while. I will take an old fuel/oil gauge and re-purpose it.
I believe you only need to use a resister and some calibration to make the gas gauge work as a volt meter. The oil level will be used as a oil pressure warning light.

I can't recall exactly how I did this, probably 10 years ago. I think I dismantled the non-functioning clock and used the clock base and bezel from it and fit in the standard small VDO voltmeter with a handmade metal spacer ring. Went together easily and works great in our track car.

gosh, I'm stunned - there are others whose clocks don't work???

I've had like a dozen Porsches thru the years and I don't recall EVER having a functioning clock!!

I LIKE the idea of having a voltmeter, that would be cool!
