AMAZING what a difference a professionally designed custom chip can do!!!

A public thank you and five stars to Sal Carceller ( scarceller on Pelican )

I bought my euro 911 last year and really had not had any free time to drive it last summer. This year was going to be different, I pulled it out of storage and wanted to make the car as reliable as a 30 yr old car could be. My friend Tim had introduced my to Sal Carceller on Pelican he is scarceller . Sal is a engineer by trade and has a passion for air cooled 911's especially making them perform to their maximum potential. Tim had a custom chip in his 73 911 with a 3.2, his was a US spec engine and I knew mine had a little bit of an edge hp wise being a euro. I brought the car to Sal and after a through examination of my car he wrote up a very comprehensive analysis, listed suggestions as to what should be replaced/repaired to help establish a baseline before any modifications to the engine. I was so impressed with his attention to detail and explanation, I went ahead and made the baseline improvements. Once Sal had a solid baseline for my car he built me a custom chip and all I can say is WOW!!! It seriously is a totally different car, throttle response is amazing, the car pulls like a F*ckn Freight train. I hope Sal will chime in with the details. He tells me upgrading my injectors and swapping out to his MAF will be the next suggested improvement. I AM VERY PLEASED and can not say enough good things about his work.

Yes, Sal is extremely knowledgeable. I'm running his timing in my Carrera 3.2 (3.4) right now.

Great guy to deal with who takes time out to give out what he knows.

Drew,

Thanks for the kind words and I'm thrilled you love the car. You have a real strong running Euro 3.2L all it needed was a good review and inspection of all things DME related. As you know you needed to address are repair a total of 4 sensors and a few other small things. This is why I never alter a car till I run through my full inspection check list and as you know that takes 4-5 hours to fully inspect and test every DME sensor, Fuel Pressure, Injectors, ... but in the end these extensive tests are required to be certain you start with a good baseline and don't tune around issues.

Every engine I've worked on, including fresh rebuilds, have had some sort of issue. This is because these cars are 30 years old and even if they are fresh re-builds they don't have every DME component tested or replaced.

I spent a total of about 12 hours on that car and we worked with stock components other than my custom tuned chip. If you decide you want to upgrade components we could further improve performance by making exhaust changes and air intake changes.

Enjoy the car!

Yup. Sal is the go2guy for your Motronic.

I was struggling for 2 years to tune a 3.2>3.5 with boost.
He made it as simple as 1-2-3.
Sal got me out the woods and back on the road to fun driving.

Did yall run a MAP sensor with the DME?

Not to steer too far off the road here with Ferrariguyma's thread....

I had tried a 'plug n play' copy of a Motronic box from the UK that could run
either AFM, MAP or MAF; tried it with MAP which sounds logical for boosted
applications. It was a nightmare/disappointment, especially communications.

Then I ran into Sal on a forum that discussed Motronic mapping.
Let's simply put it this way, I got educated quickly and every phone call
with Sal is a new lesson.

But to answer your question, I'm pushing through the AFM and things
are quite good with Sal's help. Most of the tuning I'm doing SOP (seat of pants);
laptop on passg seat, logs and naturally a wide band display in my face (been through 4 wide band mfg's, each has its issues).

Sal's last suggestion to run 1.75" primaries was on spot. Since the car is cabriolet I was trying to keep noise down using the stock exhaust system; it was choking my mid to high range naturally.

Dyno day is not far away, I want to do most of the rough stuff on the road.

Next avenue might be MAF, all depends on what can and cannot blow through it.
Again, discussions with Sal are not just educational, they are refreshingly fun; more fun than the AC threads.

I will add my accolades for Sal's expertise. I recently completed a 3.4 conversion on my '87 3.2 and installed Sal's MAF system which included his custom DME and a chip custom tuned to my car based on the dyno runs. This was Sal's first remote install of the MAF and it went well and Sal's knowledge of the motronics impressed my very experienced Porche mechanic in Denver. I don't believe that you can stump Sal with any question about the DME. The car has been transformed by both the mechanical rebuild done by Greg Johnson and Sal's MAF system.
