I wish there was a volt meter that replaced the clock that was not a retro fit - a gage that was truly the right size and matched the other stock instruments. I may give NHS a call and see what the damage would be to create one using my clock housing.

Anyone ever done this?

There's the one I got from Amazon. Usually reads 14 volts after starting and then runs at ~13.5 volts while driving. Cheap and easy to read.

I had a gage made from a clock core by BigMarkDesign a number of years ago. Happy with the way it turned out.

The Amazon digital mentioned above says it will not fit in 911 lighter. Based on comments I assume that it actually does ??

German lighters are a bit wider....there was another thread on fixing this elsewhere.
I use a lighter powered radar det. and that plug wouldn't work until I purchased a US replacement receptacle at my FLAPS for a few bucks and cut the back end off (1/2 in).
Then slide that into place (nice tight fit) and you can use any US device.

this one fits in my 73.5 lighter just fine. I get 13.87v from my charging system. Probably a bit of voltage drop because I did not solder the wiring output crimps from the alternator. Will be on my to-do list next time I'm in that area.

911 cig ports are not the same as US ones. A charging port from Manny, Moe and Jack can be put into the circuit. IT will work with a plug in style volt meter. They just aren't that accurate or reliable.

Overvoltage is THE leading cause of Bosch CDI ignition box failures. It will burn up components and the PCB. Unfortunately, spikes are as bad as constant overvoltage.

I have seen dozens of boxes that failed that way, mostly 3-pin boxes. I guess the earlier regulators were less reliable and thus it's the 3-pin boxes up to '78 that get hit the hardest by this.

That gauge looks great. What are you using as the sender for the fuel mixture gauge?

Amazon comments are right. It's a loose fit. Not sure it will stay under 'spirited driving' conditions !

Not sure the LED's serve any purpose other than displaying voltage levels.

DANGER! install volt meter now!!

Installed this neat and vital Voltmeter and also added a dual USB port with a cover (each port running 2.1A for fast charging). Looks OEM and functions great.

I believe my VR is starting to give up the ghost. I installed the voltmeter to audit fluctuations. I've got a car with flickering dash + headlights whilst not under load. Hmmmmmm, grounds, VR, alternator ...

It is a great fit if you adjust your German off sized cigar lighter to US size.
Numerous posts on this.

Basically cut down (shorten) and insert a US cigar lighter receptacle in your German one...bang, works.

Actually mine has the original size lighter and it has never came out.

The digitsLED only shows the voltage, not sure what else could be expecting from a $12 item.

The one on the edge show the charging state Red / Yellow / Green

I was wondering if this means anything more than just a voltage monitor.

"The INNOVA Battery and Charging System Monitor displays the condition of your battery and charging system instantly. It protects the engine computer and 12-volt accessories from damaging surges when jump starting or recharging."
