Oxygen Sensor

I have dropped the engine in my( european) 82 911sc to fix blown airbox and fix oil leaks. I have discovered the oxygen sensor has been cut off at the exhaust There is nothing under any seats The car was running well until I blew the airbox What do I need to do or will the engine run without the sensor This is the first work I have undertaken on this car and seeing the engine lying on the garage floor is rather scary

You can run without it. May want to verify AFR and Idle after you put her back together.

If like my 3.2, the O2S, modulates the AFR in attempt to keep her running clean.

Unless someone backdated you cis to a pre 81, it is not right, it will run but could be dangerous to your engine. If they just gutted the 02 and ecm , your freq. valve is not working. Not only does this device keep you car stoiche at idle and part throttle, it also enriches the fuel system when you pass the 35 degree switch. You are very lean at wide open throttle, and DANGEROUSLY lean if you warm press. is not where it is supposed to be. To see if you have the later 02 system, check behind the TB for the valve, if its there, you need to either replace missing components, (the correct way) replace system with an earlier one (another correct way) OR, you can do what most do and just turn your mix up to where it runs rich at idle(ring wash, not good) gets poor milage (very poor) and polluted up my world, and generally runs like crap. (THE WRONG WAY).

1982 Euro SC does not have a Lambda system.

However, given the O2 sensor was cut off at the pipe, some checking to confirm what car he has is in order.

Possible engine swap, exhaust swap, you never know , i've seen a lot of crazy things. More investigating for sure, but I bet he has a frequency valve back there.

Don,

The Euro spec '80-'83 SC's don't have lambda unit nor FV. They run like the earlier '78-'79 SC's. The USA/Can/Japan models are different.

Maybe he has a euro spec sc car, but does he have a euro spec engine? It has an cut 02 wire.
