Parking light fuse problem

I'm the new owner of an '86 Carrera. The fuse for the left side (driver's side) front and rear parking lights keeps burning out [Fuse box 2, Fuse position #5]. I went through a hand full of the correct type fuses and one of them did hold but a small amount of smoke started coming out the driver's side dash and driver's side headlight so the lights were shut off ASAP. Any help?

The above pics are of the '86 M/Y fuse panel.

Your attempted troubleshooting procedure may have created a serious issue.

I would strongly suggest an end to your fault isolation protocol.

pm me as needed.

Good luck,

Gerry

Much thanks for the diagram. Learned where the wire penetrates the body so I'll wire chase to see where it cooked.
