Question How to remove the steering wheel column

Dear Friends

I´m rebuilding this 1976 911 coupe that i recently purchase, and the steering wheel have a huge play one it , about 2 inches up and down
So I would like to know how to remove or access the steering wheel bearing to double check if there something wrong there
Also I would like to know if you guys have any ideia what the problem may be?

Thanks

Ricardo

Remove the Horn Fuse or disconnect the battery.

Remove the horn pad

Position the steering wheel.

Unbolt the 27MM nut and remove the wheel.

at this point you should see the bearing and most likely the disintergrated bushing if any.

You will have several options: 928 metal bushing or Mitchel Bushing. Both are pushed into place

Don't waste your time with the 928 metal sleeve talked about in the technical article
referred to above, it's a bandaid at best! Get the Mitch Leland bushing our host sells.
It's a permanent fix. Check out this loong thread and you will find out all about it.
