I'm loving this build, excellent job!

Where did you find the rubber strip between the bumper and body? I have been trying to locate one like this for mine.

Thanks to Jack Olson and his post about this set up.
Lucky Man's Lightweight Battery

This one is just about 3.5lbs, so shaved an additional 8lbs off the car as I had the 11.5 Braille. Both batteries cost about the same. I also purchased a charger. Both purchased off ebay with free shipping in case anybody is interested.

Nice weight savings. I thought i did well with my 15lbs agm battery. Is that 480 cranking amps? Mine is 220 i believe... Which is plenty. Mine was only about 1/3 the price however.

Finally had a chance to weigh the battery that was being used in my car, 46 lbs! The new battery is 3.5 lbs, So we saved well over 40lbs on that one "upgrade". Combined with the sunroof delete, hoping to drop close to 100lbs. with just 2 modifications. Cant wait to get the car on the scale for a final weight.

I just want to say that subscribing to your thread was a terrible ideal. We have similar goals, although my car has standard 3.2 flares. Now i want wide body. I also want to save those 50lbs with a sunroof delete. I wonder what the savings are if the original panel is retained. I also wonder how it effects the headliner.

And finally you make me want to switch my 15-16lbs agm battery for a 2lbs Li battery.

Your thread is trouble!

P.s. How is the fittment of the front smile to the top of the bumper? Is is slightly raised? If i recall you had returned your stoddard version (which i have for narrow body).

I think the idea of getting rid of the sun roof is getting rid of the motor and all the frame work. You have to use a panel to fill the hole. When he laid all the parts on the ground with the other stuff removed, it sure made sense as to where the 40-50 lbs comes from. The 964 turbo smile is a perfect fit. The Stoddard didn't even line up correctly and when we called them, they said all the part #s for that part on their website were wrong and that they didn't make a smile for the wide body that was "thin". The headliner you need would be a coupe and there are some rainbow shaped bars/rods that stretch from side to side I guess to keep the headliner tight. I needed to order that as a sunroof car doesn't have those small rods, they were cheep thank god.

This would be the way to go on a sunroof and then just add a skin if possible. But we just filled the panel to make it easy and less cost to an already over budget build.

Some of the sun roof junk that came out along with the old rubber seals from the car. Also notice the red US "crash" beams that were pulled from the doors. Those were installed when the car (a Euro) came into the states. Even had the owners name written on them.
