3.2 swapped 911sc -> 911st Backdate aka #ProjectAetna - New Updates

Howdy Pelican!

I have been hanging around the forum for a few years now waiting for the right car... and priced myself out of the market. Well, with the help of a good friend of mine (who happens to deal in Porsche's for a living) I finally found the car! 1980 911sc with a 3.2 swap. The car came to me in pretty rough cosmetic shape but the bones are very solid. It was a 25th birthday gift to myself.

I have some plans for the future although nothing is set in stone. 911st backdate, 356 color "Aetna Blue", build the 3.2 a little, etc... again nothing set in stone.

Here are pictures of the car as I got her.

I have seen a lot worse than that! Great job. I think you'll have fun putting it back together. Now get in there and clean that filthy engine compartment! LOL.

You did fine on that deal!

Welcome Charlie, nice car. Good luck with the project. I was just wondering how you will get that 3.2 transplant through the CA Smog process.

Car is smogged. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. We have actually already done quite a bit of work to the car... I will post some more updates shortly.

Before I ever took the car home, I had it serviced and I had the stereo & alarm system removed. I figured best start with a clean slate. The car also came with a 964 decklid installed, which was removed and replaced with the factory SC decklid.

Before & After of the wiring (we were still storing parts in there when I took the picture.) Also, check out the random crap we found! Epic cell phone.

I decided to pull the front carpet as it was disgusting and when we pulled the seats out, we found out the ECU was not properly secured, so we fixed it. My friend let me borrow some black SC seats he had in storage & a set of wheels/tires so I could pull the chrome cup wheels off to sell them (currently for sale.) I bought a Prototipo & hub on Amazon during Black Friday and had them ready to install.

Finally, out and about! Took it easy the first few days, but this past weekend I drove the car everywhere.

Yesterday, we installed a Cat-Bypass my friend sold me as well as all new bushings throughout the shifter. It is amazing how much difference fresh bushings and an adjustment will do! I should have a before and after clip of the exhaust (stock muffler) on youtube in the next few days.

I ordered wheels from Pelican (Euromeister 7&9-17)

Also just pulled the trigger on a fresh Carrera Oil Cooler and all new lines... should be here later this week or early next week. The lines are crushed and there is still a 911sc trumpet cooler in the fender, which is not enough to keep this engine cool. I am not trying to spend tons on this car in the first month of ownership, but in LA traffic I cannot afford to have improper cooling. Either $1500 now or a new engine much sooner than expected. Pretty easy decision to make.

Also, figured I should share my current Daily Driver. Fully Built 2010 Subaru STI hatch.

Nice, at least you knew what you were getting into. I bought a "driver's condition" car sight unseen from a so-called reputable place, and now into my 9th month putting it together. Almost finished.

Charlie! I'm so glad you finally pulled the trigger. We have been talking about a car to backdate and this one in particular for a LONG time! Congrats and I know I'll be drinking beers in the driveway shortly

Homie DB! We gotta get out soon! The RUF at home yet? We gotta get a shoot of Beauty (993 Ruf) and The Beast (my SC.) Charlie Davis and I want to do a photoshoot of my car before I do any cosmetic work... you gotta join!

For anyone that isn't familiar, Charlie Davis is a young guy from LA (19 or 20) who is absolutely one of the best automotive photographers around at the moment.... check him out! He is currently going to college in New Orleans if anyone down south wants any pictures. PM me and I will put you in touch.

Ordered some 2.5" SS-304 Tubing from Burns Stainless which should be here tomorrow morning. Going to be doing something along the lines of a M&K dual-out to the stock muffler. Hopefully tomorrow! I hope to have a comparison video of stock vs. cat-bypss->stock muffler tonight.

Also went ahead and ordered fresh rotors and pads for the car & full oil-cooling setup (braided soft lines -> OEM Carrera Cooler and brackets.) Wells Fargo is loving me right now but I want to get the car as drivable as possible before I head back to work next week. I work for myself so I would love to get the less-fun distractions out of the way while I take Christmas - New Years off. Then I can enjoy driving it and start figuring out what I want for suspension.

Hi Charlie,

What a wonderful present. I know the feeling my wife got me an early Carrera whale tale for Christmas.

Since you have removed the 964 tail you really should also remove the front chin spoiler as well to balance the aerodynamics.

That's not really going to make any difference in this stage of the game, especially since the car is going to be back dated.

Car is getting fresh pads, rotors, lines & fluid today. Oil Cooler & exhaust next week.

Then I am tapped for a while!

Talk about disappointing! The only difference is a little pop. Thank god we are cutting the muffler open this week.

^Want killer noise, go with straight pipe off the cat-bypass. Sounds awesome on mine.

it's not as hard as you think , it just has to have all the smog gear that came with the 3.2 and pass smog for the year motor, of course you'll have to see a referee to verify everything, the real only trick is the motor has to be same year or newer than the chassis

Already have some setbacks. My 17x7 Euromeister front wheels are backordered until April. Debating if I want to wait it out or buy something else.
