wavetrac or stock open differential?
Hi, I have a 901 trans that needs to be rebuilt and it has the simplified differential. I would need to get a 914 differential to get the parts needed to convert to a non-simplified. Or, i could buy a wavetrac for about $1300. I know torque sensing differentials are not nearly as good as a true clutch LSD, but the only option to get that type is a GT unit at $2300 estimated. I don't want to spend that but i also don't wan to wast $1300 and then really wish i had done it correct the first time. The car will be mostly street and some track days, 200hp and 1800lbs 911r ish car. any suggestions?
Thanks!

I make a tbd for your gearbox, not just the lsd.
I've also got the parts to convert your open diff out in my barn gathering dust. I'd hook you up for a couple hundred bucks. I own the company and still chose to put a tbd in my 914. Seamless in operation but gives extra squirt in the twisties and on track. I'd recommend one to anyone who isn't serious about best track times.

Been running wavetrack in my 3.6 911 racecar and I have 4 other friends who use it from G50 to 915 all of us think it works quite well for track it's not a straight TBD like alot of people on rennlist and pelican think it is and knock it, I say try it before you knock it

good info - thanks! I guess i'm looking for the it is so much better than the stock open diff. On most every type of car the torque sensing diff is great and noticeable but for a 911 i've heard that it is not that noticeable and that a clutch type is very noticeable. This is for a SWB car and i am planning on not running a rear sway so dialing out the understeer from a LSD would mean down sizing or eliminating the front swaybar. not sure if this would be a good plan, but i like the idea of getting balanced performance from the right sized torsions and valved shocks.

Unless it's a serious track car you don't need to spend the extra $1000 for a clutch type LSD. The extra time it gets you on track is from the lock up under braking. In my experience most DE drivers just aren't pushing the car yard enough or trail braking to really benefit from that aspect of it.
Traction on throttle will be quite noticeable with a TBD.
