Engine number decode

I have searched a few resources to try to decode this motor serial number, but no luck. I would greatly appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction. The number is "6106197".

Thank you in advance,
Matt

Should be a 1970 911T. Is there also a type number? That would tell you for sure.

A 3 digit number then a / and a 2 digit number, lighter stamping on the side rib to the right of the pulley.

Check the link posted by Jeffs914s, it's in German but you can figure it out. 3rd chart down, look at the "motor" column and you'll see numbers like 911/07--those are the engine type numbers which are found stamped on the engine case, on the flat, to the right of the engine number you posted.

From your number, the engine looks to be for a US sportomatic, but the type number will confirm that if it is 911/08.

Edit: use Joebob's picture to locate the type number.
