replacing hood struts

easy question, replacing hood struts that were previously removed on a 71 T, does the rod/gas tube part attach to the bottom or top.?

Rod = bottom, toward chassis.

As I remember, the driver's side strut is a mother.

Although more expensive, I found this aftermarket strut much easier to install, and longer lasting, than the factory gas struts.

The clip goes over the end of the pin with no difficulty whatsoever, on either side. Just hold the clip with needlenose pliers and it goes on slicker than snot on a doorknob. Done it many times.

That Ultimate Strut that was linked to earlier isn't worth 10 cents. Sooner or later you'll forget it's there and you'll bend it when you try to close the lid. That will cause the fiberglass pole to fracture, sending glass shards everywhere, including right through the intake grill below the windshield, destroying it. Ask me how I know. That's right, that piece of glass rod will hit it with such force that it will tear a 1" hole in the metal grill.

got em all in (2 front and 1 rear) with all clips in about 20 mins, no biggie. Looks like I'm getting a little push up in rear of the hood and will have to adjust down a tad

Remember there are two holes on the chassis in the rear. Make sure it is in the correct one.

I think I saw only one available pinhole (top and bottom) for the front hood struts (71), but I'll look again. Thx
