Question Engine number-Is this correct?

6372014.

From what I've found from searching -does this engine number break down thus :-
6= 6 cylinders
3=?
7=1977
2014=2014th engine produced in 1977

I think this is a 2.7 with 175HP

Any information correcting me welcome
Thanks in advance.

I've spent the last hour searching here and on the web trying to find the data on the various engine numbers. I'm looking at another early car tomorrow with a supposedly 3.0 in it. I'd sure like to be able to lean in there and know that it is was it is being sold as. So, no, I don't have the number right now. Can I print out a chart from somewhere and have it with me to verify? Thanks.

Almost right!
The 6 is for 6cyl, the 3 is some model designation and the 7 is the year ('77). The serial number is also right, the 2014th '77 911/81 engine built. It is a 2.7L w/ CIS fuel injection and 165 hp.

The 3 is model #, and in this case a targa. 95% sure.

Is this a K-jet engine originally? It has zeniths fitted to it now.
I guess it's the same as the other 2.7 165Hp -just made in 1975
This engine looks a lot nicer altogether than the last
Thanks in advance all you fonts of knowledge.

Usually a number like
633****(6) six cylinder (3) type S (3) 73' motor

613**** (6) six cylinder (1) type T (3) 73' motor

623**** (6) six cylinder (2) type E (3) 73' motor

For some reason in the late seventies Porsche changed the rules.

In 77'

637**** was a base model (150HP)not an S
and
627**** was a US S (165HP)

667**** was a 3.0 Carrera

The second digit being six was always a Euro Carrera until the 80's

663**** would be a 73' CarreraRS motor.

What if this motor is a European model? The owner says it has zeniths as standard.
I thought all 2.7's were either MFI or K-jetted. Were some of the 2.7's fitted with carbs?

I thought the last carb cars were the Euro 2.4 Ts with Zeniths.
