It's a support for a long hood door pocket.

This is absolutely correct^^.

It fits on the door near the front end of the long door pocket. The spring arm holds the pocket open when it's tilted open.

Sorry but I don't think so... that arm is no spring to hold a pocket up... it's of a reasonable size and would not fit on the end of door etc.

I'm thinking more along the lines to hold a cable... could be engine end?

Okay, I only owned 3 long hoods, so I guess you are right.

The spring doesn't hold the pocket up. The pocket has a nylon pin on the end that the spring holds with a bit of tension.

Do a Google search. https://www.lakewell.com/en/porsche/911/65-73/support-bracket-door-pockets-porsche-911-69-73

It is a "Left Door pocket support bracket" 90155508700 you were right and I was on a wild goose chase ... I won't be needing this anyway

No problem. Guess it would seem questionable if you didn't have a longhood with correct pockets.

Have a long hood but it didn't have any interior pc's that I recall and I'm fitting RS door panels.
I wonder if this came with the 81SC I wrecked? anyway, will stick it on the shelf with other not required parts.
