It's a support for a long hood door pocket.

This is absolutely correct^^.
It fits on the door near the front end of the long door pocket. The spring arm holds the pocket open when it's tilted open.

Sorry but I don't think so... that arm is no spring to hold a pocket up... it's of a reasonable size and would not fit on the end of door etc.
I'm thinking more along the lines to hold a cable... could be engine end?

The spring doesn't hold the pocket up. The pocket has a nylon pin on the end that the spring holds with a bit of tension. Do a Google search. https://www.lakewell.com/en/porsche/911/65-73/support-bracket-door-pockets-porsche-911-69-73

No problem. Guess it would seem questionable if you didn't have a longhood with correct pockets.
