While driving, Disengaged the clutch to change gears and the engine just died. Came to a stop and started the car OK. It did this 3 times within about 5 minuets, the last time it would not start anymore. Towed it home, got a new DME relay and all was good again.

Start up.
Bought a new one, the Porsche relay was NG right out of the box. I used a Kaehler all good. I keep 2 in my tool bag just in case.

Driving. About 15 miles from home and got flatbedded back. Didn't know what the DME was or did, so didn't have a spare. Ordered one online, changed it out a few days later, started right up without any problems.

First one caused intermittent misfire and spark cutout at speed.
Second one cut out on a hot day just down the road from where the car heat soaked in a parking lot . After cooling off it restarted. My understanding is that the relays fail from cracked welds resulting from vibration. Somebody here has posted a fix if you're good with a soldering iron. myself, I just keep a spare in the glove box |
